Outcomes
Do Now | Share your sketches (5)Pick one of your sketches from yesterday and share your concept with someone else in the room. Take time to look at their concept too. Talk with one another about how you could develop it for the Innovation District. Do Next | Pick a Photo for Sketching (10)Pick a photo from the folder. Place your photo below your name in the following document for sketching. (Once everyone picks one, we will print them for sketching) Mini Lesson | How to find architectural ideas (15)
Studio Time Goal Setting | Write a goal for taking on of your sketch ideas and developing it in the space you chose (5)Studio Time | Sketch a design on the photo we printed (15)Ticket Out | Share your sketch on your way out (2)

Outcomes
Do Now | Observe the following Models (15)Observe each of the following structures. Write down the following components:
Studio Time | Develop sketches inspired by observations (25)Sketch a design inspired by each build design. Try to incorporate features into each sketch from each of the buildings you observed above. Make a sketch of each face of the building designs (North|South|East|West). Write a short explanation for you sketch about how you connected with the materials, shapes, and lines from your observations. Circle up | Share out one of your six sketches (10)Ticket Out | Show Kimberly your engineering notebook with you 6 sets of observation notes & sketches (2)Outcomes
Do Now | Quick Sketching (5)Pull up a 30 second timer on your chromebook. Challenge yourself to sketch an object as many times as possible in the first 5 minutes. Maker sure to try to revise the details of the sketch each time, not just drawing the same thing in the same way each time. Professional Model | Connect-Extend-Challenge (15)
Mini Lesson | Observational Drawings (10)Observe one of the following structures. Write down the following components:
Take 5 minutes to observe and then we will group you based on the building that appeals to you to discuss your Materials/Shapes/Lines together. Each group will present their thoughts on the building they chose. Mini Presentation | Materials - Shapes - Lines (10)Studio Time | Sketching your thoughts (10)Take the elements you like from one of the designs and start sketching a design that is inspired by one of these architects. Focus on the shapes and lines first, then go back after you are satisfied and identify the materials in an annotation next to your sketch. Ticket Out | Share a sketch with Tim on your way out (2)Outcomes
Do Now | Quick Jot (5)Write your response in your engineering notebook:
Model of Drawing | Connect-Extend-Challenge (10)
Mini Lesson | Quick Drawing practice (15)Practice drawing objects in 30 second spurts. Presentation | Julie-Hunter-Braeden (17)Ticket Out | What did you learn about your sketching abilities today? (5)Outcomes
Do Now | Choose a Focus (5)Choose a specific area that you think will be the most valuable viewpoint to research:
Analysis | Filter Through the Data (20)
Sharing | Present Your role (20)Studio Time | Collect Photos and Measurements from yesterday (5)Ticket Out | What was something that you heard from today that you didn't expect? (2)Outcomes
Do Now | Pick a Pic (10)Select a Photo from the folder or from your own library of photos. Tell us what makes that photo the most appealing photo for you to start designing your ideas for the Innovation District. Presentation (10 minutes presenting - 5 Minutes Feedback)
Ticket out | Quick Jot Reflection (2)How do you plan to make your designs relevant to the innovation district?
Outcomes
Do Now | Quick Jot (5)Write your responses in your engineering notebook as you enter the classroom:

Do Now | Turn & Talk (5)Turn and talk with someone near you about the following question: What do you think is an effective use of the innovation district?
Walk to the Innovation District | What vision do we have for this space? (32)Ticket out | A sketch of the space (5)Outcomes
Do Now | Presentation Prep (10)HL 1 & HL 2 Documentation Presentation Expectations:
Presentation (10 minutes presenting - 5 Minutes Feedback)
Ticket out | Quick Jot Reflection (2)Write your response in your engineering notebook before you leave.
How did today's presenters inform you of what you can do differently for your presentation? |
Course DescriptionFoundations of Architectural Design is a course geared for students interested in design concepts and elements of architecture. Students spend first semester exploring architectural forms and developing ways of communicating design concepts and ideas. We develop concept boards that communicate sketching, floor planning, concept models, and site plans for multiple projects and assessments. Students transition to Computer Aided Design in the second semester, learning to develop CAD models for concepts using Revit. Students develop a home design following standards for Habitat for Humanity Lakeside. After developing concepts and CAD Models, students communicate their concepts to Habitat for Humanity Lakeside as a pitch for building their concept. Archives
